Why Not Have Chocolate Chip Gingerbread For Easter!


Chocolate and gingerbread  go together heavenly. Just add some whipped cream and you’re ready to go!

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • grease and flour 9-inch square pan
  • 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick) softened
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2-1/2 cups AP flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup of hot water

1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips (divided)

  • Cream butter and sugar together till smooth. 
  • Add beaten egg and mix in.
  • Mix in molasses and continue to mix
  • In another bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, the spices, and the salt
  • Add the dry ingredients to the molasses mixture  and stir
  • Add the hot water and mix
  • Mix 1/2 the chocolate chips (1/2 cup) to the mix
  • Pour into pan
  • Scatter the rest of the chocolate chips over the top of the gingerbread
  • Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees or till firm and cake tester comes out clean

  2. I did make gingerbread for my guy around Christmas but he wasn’t so keen on it, now I realize my mistake! I should’ve doused it in chocolate because when did chocolate fail to make anything better 🙂
